Texas Votes (txvotes.app) is a free voting guide website for Texas elections. Your privacy matters — here's exactly what happens with your data.

What we collect

We collect only what you provide during the interview:

Voter preferences — your top issues, political outlook, policy views, and candidate qualities
Street address — used once to look up your voting districts

How we use it

Your preferences are sent to our server to generate personalized ballot recommendations using AI (Claude by Anthropic)
Your address is sent to the U.S. Census Bureau Geocoder API to determine your congressional, state house, and state senate districts
After generating your guide, your profile and ballot are stored locally in your browser

What we don't do

We do not store your data on our servers — the API proxy processes requests and discards them
We do not sell, share, or rent your personal information to anyone
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics for anonymous page-view counts only — no cookies, no personal data, no tracking across sites
We count anonymous usage events (like "guide generated" or "cheat sheet printed") to improve the app. These counts contain no personal information, no IP addresses, and no way to identify individual users.
We do not use tracking pixels or advertising SDKs
We do not collect device identifiers, IP addresses, or usage data

Local storage

Your voter profile and ballot are saved in your browser's local storage so they persist between visits. This data never leaves your device unless you generate a new guide. Clearing your browser data will remove it.

Third-party services

Anthropic (Claude API) — processes your voter profile to generate recommendations. Subject to Anthropic's privacy policy.
U.S. Census Bureau Geocoder — receives your address to return district information. A public government API.
Cloudflare Workers — our API proxy runs on Cloudflare. Requests are processed in memory and not logged or stored.
Cloudflare Web Analytics — collects anonymous page-view counts. No cookies, no personal data, no cross-site tracking. Subject to Cloudflare's privacy policy.

Data deletion

Click "Start Over" in the Profile tab to erase all local data at any time. Since we don't store anything on our servers, there's nothing else to delete.

Children's privacy

This site is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect information from children.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll update the date above and publish the new version at this URL.
